Children of the Gods picks up a year after the events in the movie transpired. Col. Jack O'Neill has retired and is living his life staring at the stars. Dr. Daniel Jackson remained behind on Abydos with his wife Sha're. Newcomer Cpt. Samantha Carter joins the team to prove a woman belongs on the front lines. Teal'c joins SG-1 in hopes to free his fellow Jaffa which have been slaves to the Goa'uld for thousands of years.
Likes:
O'Neill and Jackson were played by Kurt Russell and James Spader, respectfully, in the movie Stargate. Richard Dean Anderson and Michael Shanks play the roles in Stargate SG-1 and do an excellent job in re-creating the characters. There is even an uncanny resemblance between Michael Shanks and James Spader.
The addition of the Goa'uld as a parasitic race is great as well as using ancient Egyptian mythology. The writers did an amazing job writing the story line.
Having Teal'c join the cast as a rebel Jaffa allows for a character to fight for something.
Dislikes:
I wish there was more story of Dr. Daniel Jackson in what he did on Abydos. Daniel was supposed to have buried the gate. The SGC sends a box of Kleenex through and within a few hours Daniel returns an empty box. Then we are told that the gate was guarded for 36 hour shifts. The gate looks like it had never been moved, nor does it look like it was buried for a year.
Overall:
I really enjoy this pilot episode. It does a great job in portraying the characters and adding in new ones that mesh well with the old. There is an in depth synopsis of each character in the Chevrons section. Next episode: The Enemy Within.
